Dustin is a co-owner in Gameday Cloth and is in Austin running our 2nd Street District location. He had wonderful things to share with his Mom as well:

I have no one specific memory that stands out about my mom. I say that only because she’s been consistently great for my entire life. She was always the one who cheered the loudest at youth soccer games, always the one to help me and my sister with our homework, always the one who took care of the family (whether sick, elderly, recovering, etc). She was also the most thoughtful member of the family, the one who makes me laugh the hardest and the one that I miss most often. She’s the conscience, the heart and soul, and the rock in my family and I can’t put into words how much I love her and how much she’s meant to all of us. Happy mother’s day Glenda!

So I asked my family to submit Mom Memory’s as well. Not to be entered, but I was so moved by everyone’s submissions that I wanted to share it with my own Mom. Here is what my older sister sent in from Kentucky:

My memories of mom are too many to try to count. She has been our defender, our protector and our supporter and our cheerleader. She has doctored wounds and wiped away tears - Always quick with a hug and encouragement.

She lifts us up in prayer and is willing to trust God with our todays and our tomorrows.

She let us run off to the four corners making sure we understand we always have a place to return (which we all have at one time or another!!) We can always count on a wonderful meal and some good conversation. No one can deny she’s a regular gourmet!!

She let us take on the world standing on our own two feet, but is still always there to encourage us when it isn’t going well, share some wisdom when we’re making a wrong turn, or dust us off when we land on our butts- yet she also celebrates our victories more sincerely than anyone else.

I know moms love their kids, but God did an extra special job when he made ours.

Thank you for all of your love Mom, none of us would be where we are without it!

My favorite “Mom Memory” centers around my wedding day in December 2011. My Mom helped me plan every detail of my wedding, from the floral arrangements to the music to the food selections! Choosing all of these special details was such a fun bonding experience for my Mom and I. She and I both wanted the wedding day to be perfect…and it was!

My Mom was there to help me put on my beautiful gown, and the expression on her face when I walked down the aisle was priceless. She was so proud of her “little girl”. As my Dad walked me down the aisle, my Mom grabbed my hand and gave it a sweet little squeeze. I could feel her unconditional love in that one little touch. Fortunately, the photographer captured this special moment, and I’ll never forget it. :)

Sorry for reusing that dated NBA marketing slogan, but these playoffs have really pulled me back in. Sure, after March Madness and MLB’s opening few weeks, I start paying some cursory attention to the Association. My man crush on Kevin Durant has even kept me engaged at times during the long regular season. But this year it seems to be even more exciting.

After a first round featuring my two favorite teams (Houston and OKC), the up and coming Clippers, Nuggets and Warriors, and drama in the Brooklyn/Chicago series and the NY Knicks/Boston series, I noticed I was making the late night games a little higher on the viewing scale at the house. I had no idea how intense it was going to get in round two.

There seems to be a lot of bad blood in the east. The Knicks/Pacers undercard is great theater if only because the Knicks could win or lose any game by 20 depending on how they are shooting that night. The Bulls/Heat series…that’s on a whole other level. If there were a drinking game involving the how many times a Heat or Bulls player was thrown, pushed, pulled or tripped onto the floor, Starlight Vodka might run out of inventory.

Then there’s the West. Wow. Manu Ginobili may have hit the shot of the playoffs with 2 seconds left in the second overtime of game 1. And Steph Curry is becoming a star before our eyes. Kevin Durant is proving how great he is coming 1 assist shy of a triple-double. And the Grizzlies are showing everyone why they were a popular pick to make the finals.

I hope that this is a sign of things to come. I love this game (another old NBA slogan).

The last several weeks have been packed with a ton of exciting changes. For starters, I’ve moved from north Dallas to downtown Austin. I love Dallas and have will always have fond memories, but I think I’ve always belonged in Austin. Now that I’m (finally) here, I’ve had the chance to begin exploring the city and get familiar with downtown, try a ton of great places to eat and to drink, and, oh yeah, set up our 2nd Street District Gameday Cloth store.

This weekend is our Grand Opening. If you are around, please come by all weekend for fun and giveaways. From 1-4 Saturday we will have live music from Luke Betchner, our friends at Treaty Oak Distilling Company will be providing drinks and our friends (and neighbors) at Cantina Laredo will bring by some tasty treats. We will also be raffling off some really cool things will contributions from Hari Mari, GWear and the 2nd Street District (among others). Stop by and feel free to bring a friend or three. See you this weekend!

February is a tough month for the sports fan…the Super Bowl signals the end of the NFL season, college football is all but forgotten, baseball hasn’t started yet and, for me anyway, my Basketball Jones hasn’t arrived. Fortunately, it’s the shortest month and March Madness is right around the corner. Pitchers and catchers have reported for spring training and the post All Star Game NBA season is starting to become more and more compelling.

So how do you pass the time? Usually, I try to catch up on movies and tv shows I’ve missed, read a couple of books, and spend more time outdoors as the temperature rises. The hibernation needs to end sometime, people.

This February, I used my time to pick up and move to Austin. Getting a second Gameday Cloth up and running plus unpacking and organizing my (so called) life has been more than enough to pass the time. I know that we are all excited to bring the Gameday Cloth lifestyle to our friends, old and new, in the state capital. It will all be worth it.

So, I ask again…how do you pass the time? What helps the sports fan in you get through this month?
