Bring Back the Old SWC

Okay, so I read an article yesterday on how the Big 10 is looking at realignment and if they do, the other major conferences will be reconfigured as well.  My vote for the conference restructure is to bring back the Old Southwest Conference.  This year, TCU ended up in a BCS game and SMU is making serious headlines with a huge Hawaii bowl victory.  Many people talk about money and how both programs wouldn’t pull enough in, but think about alumni from UT or Texas A&M located in the Dallas area.  How many of these dedicated fans wouldn’t go to these games either in Dallas or Fort Worth?  I dare say there would actually be more competition in football coming from these schools than Baylor is putting up right now.  Yes, Baylor beat Texas in basketball this past weekend, but SMU pulled out a great victory against Memphis and TCU is rising again.  Here is a great article, http://tinyurl.com/yz63hoc.

I’m not saying they can be competitive with Texas right now, but both schools have serious football momentum and their basketball teams will only get better.

Bowl Game Season and Coaching Changes

We are almost to the final game, the National Championship between University of Texas and University of Alabama.  This is such and exciting season for both Jana and I as we witnessed our SMU Mustangs compete in their first bowl game in 25 years.  Luckily it was the highest margin of victory this year for any team in a bowl game and to be honest, an amazing game for the Ponies.  It’s pretty exciting knowing next year we will be better. The post I left on Facebook kind of summarizes my feelings, “it’s nice to be on this side of the blowout”.  I remember standing in the stands during a game at the Cotton Bowl my senior year.  It was a lonely feeling because the Cotton Bowl is a large place when noone is there and the poor team just couldn’t compete.  Now, I do believe we will make some polls in the near future.  Can we be someone like TCU? I don’t know, but I’m elated we are on the right track.

Almost every year there is something that sticks out in everyone’s head.  I think this year it will be Mike Leach being fired from Texas Tech.  No matter what happened to Adam James, I believe this will be the days of the rough and tough college coach are coming to an end.   Don’t forget you also had Mike Mangino from Kansas being fired for severe misconduct.  Both of these coaches had extremely successful records, however could not lead their team in a professional manner anymore.  These type of coaches are being shown the door, and too be honest, they should be.  I witnessed Skip Holtz of East Carolina still telling his kicker to keep his head up, this was after missing his third chip shot field goal for the win against Arkansas.  It shows true professionalism and I really respect him for that.  Although I wouldn’t be so quick to run him out there after the second miss.

As I mentioned before right down the road from us, TCU had an amazing year.  Unfortunately they weren’t able to finish their perfect season, but they did get to show their program on National TV in a BCS game.  I do think UT and Alabama are currently the two best teams in the nation, but it would really be nice to see a playoff of some sort.  This is definitely not a new thought though, but I’m not sure we will ever see a playoff.

Finally, we are really looking forward to next football season.  You should expect to see some great developments from our company and we will make sure and get out to see our fans.  Thank you for your support.
